"my advice...don't ever cancel your trauma insurance"

Written and accurate as at: Sep 18, 2018 Current Stats & Facts

In 2012, Yaz and Rachelle took our professional advice to set up personal insurance policies to protect their incomes, mortgage, assets and importantly their child’s welfare should something unexpected happen. These polices included trauma insurance, income protection and life insurance.

During the past 3 years Yaz and Rachelle have faced some tough financial circumstances yet through it all they kept their trauma policy and other insurances going. Even though close family members advised them to cancel their insurances Yaz was firm in his resolve that should something happen he wanted his family protected.  This may prove to be the best financial decision he has ever made.

In early August this year, Yaz received medical news that no-one wants to hear, news that would rock the foundations of his world. He was diagnosed with cancer. This terrible news understandably shocked him and his family.  He struggled with many emotions and thoughts including; his long-term health, getting his Will done, his wife and young son’s future, the cost of medical treatment and the severe impact this would have on his ability to work and the financial consequences it would cause.

TRAUMA INSURANCE PAYOUT

It wasn’t until some weeks later that Yaz remembered Select Advice had set up a Trauma Insurance policy for him 6 years ago. A call to our office confirmed the policy was in place and on the 21st August, he met with Eric Bohl to commence the claims process.  The process from start to finish was managed by our firm and finalised within 3 weeks. On Monday 10th September Yaz was handed a cheque for his Trauma Insurance payout.

In Yaz’s own words, “this is like a ray of sunshine and will take the stress away. I don’t know what I would have of done if I didn’t receive this payout, our backs were against the wall.”  This trauma insurance payout will now allow Yaz to keep his home and importantly seek the best medical care for his condition. It will also allow him to take time with his recovery without the pressure of having to return to work prematurely.

Yaz’s advice to people is ‘don’t cancel your trauma insurance, if it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.’ Thankfully he is now in remission and looking forward to a full recovery and spending time with his wife and young son.

Over the past 3 years, Select Advice Financial Planning has paid out over $5.6 million in personal insurance claims to our clients. If you would like information on Trauma Insurance or would like to review your personal insurances, please call our office on (03) 9078 6577.
